What is the difference between ms contins and oxy contins?

Because I am suffering from severe osteo arthritis necrosis. I am taking Vicodin es 750 4 times a day and it is not helping with the pain. My doctor had mentioned ms contins and I tried to do some research and found that there is a oxy contin. I need bilateral total hip replacements, my cartilage is completely gone and my hip bones have collapsed.What is the difference between ms contins and oxy contins?
MS contin is morphine whereas oxycontin (aka oxycodone) is not. they are both very similar in that morphine is an opiate while oxycontin is opiate-like. they are both used for moderate to severe pain. morphine is typically used for more severe pain (but they can vary the dose) than oxycontin although, as with most pain meds, it can make you really sleepy. occasionally docs prescribe both vicodin and oxycontin. if you have a the total hip replacement the doctors may prescribe a PCA pump which will give you morphine at your control through an IV. doctors tend to be somewhat hesitant to give patients morphine because it can be addictive.

MS Contin is morphine sulfate in a 12 hour time relase form. Oxycontin is Oxycodone in a 12 hour time release form. Oxycodone is the same medication that is in Percocet, the oxycontin is just pure oxycodone without the tylenol. I take oxycontin for chronic pelvic pain, and it works very well along with Oxy IR (pure oxycodone in an immedaite release formula) for breakthrough pain. In strength the morphine is the stronger of the two. Oxycodone is only a little bit stronger than what's in your Vicodin. As a chronic pain patient, I would go with your doctpr's advice, but maybe ask him if you can try Oxycontin first since the morphine is stronger and trying the oxy first would leave you the option of trying the morphine later on if the oxy didn't work.What is the difference between ms contins and oxy contins?
HI!!!!!!!!! Man, can i relate!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am having a total hip replacement in 2 days and it is the worse pain i think i've EVER gone through........bc all the pressure of your weight is on it!!!!!!!!! I am currently taking Lortab 10/500 (Vicodin), Skelicin for muscle spasms and Ambeim CR 12.5 which is the strongest but it never works the whole night. Most nights i have to take Xanex and a half of Soma of a whole one!!!!!!!!! I also suffer from SEVERE scoliosis.........curvuture of the spine. Had 2 major back surgeries in 2005 and finally had to have my lumber fused. Yeah, i also have NO cartilege in my hip bones, then i had to have minor knee surgery to repair torn meniscus and ligaments just so i can have the hip surgery. Everyone is like: Man, why do you even worry about how much pain meds you have????????????? I go to pain management and they have had me on EVERYTHING under the sun.............fentanyl patches, oxycodone (which is morphine), Avinza which is time released morphine, etc...........all of it made me SICK!!!! So i just stick with my good ole Lortab, Soma (when i can get it) and Ambeim CR 12.5, sometimes Xanex but whatever you do.................don't get on Xanex every day! If you do it every day and try to stop cold turkey like i did like an idiot you WILL go into seizure, I DID!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, if i were you i would just get my vicodin upped to Lortab 10/500 or Norco 10/325 and see how that works before you start the really HARD stuff!!!!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!
